(Galatians 2:20)
Understanding this teaching is vitally important!
"Knowing this, that our old man was crucified together with
him, so that the body of sin may be destroyed, so that we no longer serve
sin." Romans 6: 6.
Paul writes that our old man was crucified as if he were something
already believed and known. Today, this is a very little known topic among
Christians. And those who know about him , do not believe it, so
it does not help or benefit them.
A while ago a man testified that he now believes that he is
crucified with Christ, and that it was an act of faith. He looked so
cheerful. It was wonderful to hear, it was something completely
different fromOld understanding of: committing sin and receiving grace to
be forgiven. For a newly converted, forgiveness of sins may be exciting,
but when a person has become a teacher in Christ and continues to sin, he is
deplorable and lacks strength.
At some
point we have to come to victory over all that we know is sin, because all
conscious sin belongs to the old man.
By living a life in victory
we gradually discover more and more the sin that is unconscious. When we
receive light on unconscious sin, we then have to crucify it so that the body
of sin is destroyed, so that we no longer serve sin.
By faith we keep sin where it should be: in death. And so we
will consider ourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus, our
Lord. Sin must not reign in our mortal body, so that we obey it in its
lusts. (Romans 6: 11-12)
We have desires in our mortal body, but we must not obey
them. In other words, we are dead to desires. We have received power
to do so by entering this battle of faith: Dead with Christ, crucified with
Christ.
“With Christ I am crucified together, and I no longer live, but
Christ lives in me.” Galatians 2:20. If Paul could believe that he was
crucified with Christ, we can also believe him. That is why it is written:
"But those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with their
passions and desires." Galatians 5:24.
Why not live in victory then? To lament and complain
about the continuous defeats can be heard very humble, but the root
of this is only sin and disbelief. Fresh and bitter water cannot flow from
the same source. (James 3: 10-11)
It does not help to be at the foot of the cross; It was not
at the foot of the cross where Jesus overcame. We have to be on the
cross! That is where Jesus defeated the principalities and the spiritual
hosts of hell. And that's where we win too.
Pastors and preachers should start teaching this to the disciples
as soon as possible, because it is a fact that only some believers have faith
and a clear understanding of this matter. And it is vitally important.
