One of the primary messages of the Bible is the call to repentance
and change. This teaching is of vital importance.
As the apostle Paul wrote, God "commands all men everywhere
to repent" (Acts 17:30). However, the concept of repentance is not a
recurring theme in most modern religious settings; Today a congregation of
believers is rarely exhorted to repent.
On the other hand, in the Bible we see that John the Baptist,
Jesus' cousin, fervently preached: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is
at hand" and also encouraged those who heard him to do "fruits worthy
of repentance" (Matthew 3: 2, 8). And, shortly after John's death, Jesus
Christ insisted on this teaching saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of
heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17).
Later, when the New Testament Church was founded a few weeks later
after the crucifixion of Christ, the Apostle Peter addressed thousands of
Jewish believers saying, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name
of Jesus Christ for forgiveness. of sins; and you will receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit ”(Acts 2:38).
