What is the gospel message that Jesus Christ and the New Testament
Church preached? What does the Bible say about the gospel?
When Jesus began his ministry on earth, He preached "the
gospel of the kingdom" (Matthew 4:23; Mark 1:14). The word
" gospel "
comes from the Greek word evangelion , which means "good
news." So, Jesus was preaching the "good news" about the
coming Kingdom of God .
Many names, one gospel
The message of Jesus is also called "the gospel of Jesus
Christ" (Mark 1: 1); "The gospel of the grace of God" (Acts
20:24), "the gospel of God" (Romans 1: 1), "the gospel of the
glory of Christ" (2 Corinthians 4: 4), "the gospel of your salvation
”(Ephesians 1:13) and“ the gospel of peace ”(Ephesians 6:15). While there
is only one true gospel, each of these descriptions focuses on a different
aspect of the same message.
The Old Testament prophets had spoken of the Kingdom of God by
inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2
Peter 1:21). Many of them had described the universal peace and great
prosperity that will be in this Kingdom. When Jesus came to earth, He gave
these teachings greater relevance. In fact, it was the central point of
his instruction.
We are commanded to believe in the gospel of the Kingdom
The gospel, or good news, of the Kingdom is the message that Jesus
currently exhorts us to believe. Since He is the only being through whom
we can receive salvation (Acts
4:12), we must take into account his instruction to "repent and believe in
the gospel" (Mark 1:15).
The gospel of the Kingdom is indeed glorious news that can give us
peace and salvation. However, these wonderful gifts will not come if we do
not repent of our sins. If you want more information about this Rein or
why you need to be in Christ.
